Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X.4601 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/LG28.9.23. 10,000 MILES TEST ON PRODUCTION CHASSIS. X.4594 X.4601 There are several points in BJ's memo. ref. BJ13/H 26.9.23. which we should like to criticise. The fact of the cars running the 10,000 miles being placed in charge of the Expl: Dept: we feel, gives us this right. We think it would be unwise to run the car regularly between London and Derby. Previously, when we have been running intensive 10,000 miles standardisation tests, we have adopted the suggestion and arranged that the car ran between Derby and the outskirts of London in which case two return journeys were made each day. It was arranged at the farthest point for the driver to send a telegram to the Works. We considered this method for the 10,000 miles production test but decided against it because in our opinion, we should not have obtained the desired results. We assumed that the 10,000 miles tests on production cars should be run under more average conditions. On the road from Derby to London and back, there would be no need for a single change of gear and there is hardly a gradient or turn on the road. We purposely set out to endeavour to run the car over the widest possible range of road conditions. The 20 HP. car at present running, has travelled from Derby to Scotland, from Derby to the south coast, from Derby to the east coast and from Derby towards the west coast. With regard to the log sheet. We agree that we ought to have published these before now. All the contd:- | ||
