Outlining the routine and progress of a 10,000-mile test on a 20 HP production car.

X4594 X4601 With reference to your Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}6/M18.9.23 attached. The routine of running the 10,000 miles test on the 20 HP. production car is as follows. One tester has been given the job to see that this car receives the attention as regards lubrication, and adjustments which we recommend in our Instruction Book. It is also his duty to see that the Log is filled in by every person using the car, and that all work done on the car is reported. When the car is not being run by anybody-else, this tester runs the car on various routes in order to cover mileage. The car is run under average running conditions - No experimental tests or tests or adjustments of any kind are carried out on the car. We endeavour to get Officials at the Works to drive this car - we have not approached the non-technical Officials because as far as we know they are not drivers. We find that Officials have very little time to cover many miles on this car unless it is used for some definite journey in connection with their work. For instance, it was used by Mr. Maddocks when he had to visit a customer in Scotland, and it has been used by Rg.{Mr Rowledge} and others for visits to WW. The 20 HP. car has now completed 7,900 miles. During that time it has been driven by - R.{Sir Henry Royce} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Rg.{Mr Rowledge} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} We received the 40/50 HP. chassis early this week. It is at present having a body fitted - the tests should start next week. We can easily arrange for Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} to use one of these cars Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} cars | ||
