For the attention of Mr. C.R.N. Minchin.

Dear Sirs,

With reference to your letter M/5 of the 18th inst. which Mr. Royce has passed on to us for our comments.

We are aware that when this battery was installed some years ago it was understood that the battery would not do all that we expected it would, and this has been borne out in experience as we have had to change the positive plates on the average every two years. This is becoming an expensive procedure and you will agree should not be the case with any stationary battery. As we see it at the moment there remain two solutions to the problem, as follows :-

(a) That you supply us with a smaller number of plates per cell, say 9, with thicker 12 mm. Plante type positive in order that we may use our existing glass boxes for these. The battery would have approximately the same capacity in ampere hours but would, in the long run, prove more suitable for our requirements as well as saving extra expense in replating.

(b) That you supply is with a new 11 plate battery complete to suit our requirements and allow us credit for our existing battery.
