(2) (8) Mild steel plate in lower half crankcase. Instructed for test 9.10.36 saves 3d per chassis. (9) Nose bearing for clutch. Design of new clutch in hand incorporating several economies. (10) Crankshafts with integral balance weights - Lec.4597, 5230. Material estimates show a saving - awaiting labour estimates. (11) Frames and fittings section. Several parts at present in nickel steel instructed experimentally in mild steel on 27.10.36. (12) Cheapened axle fixings for rear springs - Lec.5291/2. Designs held up pending results of experimental tests on fitting levers on to knurled shafts. (13) Cylinder liners in normal iron. Liners in Brico iron ordered for test. R.R.cast liners available for test. (14) Simplified oil relief valve unit - Lec.5275. Awaiting experimental test. (15) Exhaust system. Nickel plated mild steel lagging covers instructed for production saving £1.16.0 per chassis. Design of revised cheaper and lighter system almost completed. (16) Cheapened method of producing rear axle tubes. Investigation completed and designs issued, as applied to Wraith II, saving 25/- per chassis. Design now in hand on similar lines for Phantom III. | ||
