As will be seen
the percentage
loss to the
silencer appears
independent of
the power out-
put, i.e. of
the mass of gas
flowing along
the pipe, and
we may therefore
assume with
reasonable
certainty that
this is a second-
ary effect, and
the point of
primary import-
ance in an exha-
ust systems pow-
er loss, is the
wave effect of
the gases pass-
ing through
