EB.3009 Front Silencer-centre pipe made from perforated tubing.

The new exhaust system was good for silence and free from booms. At 11.339 miles, the outlet pipe from the intermediate silencer cracked away at the weld. It was re-welded, but at 15.170 miles it pulled right out. The end plate of the silencer had broken away round the weld, the weld remaining intact on this occasion. It was again welded.
The inlet pipe to this silencer also had to be re-welded as the weld started to crack.

The aluminium link of the rear suspension bracket was badly worn by the top bolt. It was drilled out and a brass bush fitted. The aluminium bobbins also wore badly allowing side float on the bolt. Steel washers were fitted instead, bearing on the ends of the brass bush. No further trouble was experienced.

Initial Spring Load .005" Shutters made as free as possible.

The cooling has been most satisfactory.
The maximum water temperature under daily running conditions was 82°c even when the air temperature was 32°c.

On a long hill with prolonged full throttle and maximum torque (about 1700 rpm.) 84°c was the maximum reached.

The shutters required setting when received, after which they gave a good control of the temperature. They rattled badly on rough roads and were particularly noticeable at low speeds in villages.

Loss of water was negligible under all conditions.
