40/50 h.p. Continental Chassis
for Mr. Pass.

Thank you for your Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}9/GR{George Ratcliffe}4.5.32. and enclosure

from By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}

Knowing how keen Mr. Pass is to have some form of brightly finished wheel and is not anxious to have polished discs, could you recommend his having the wheels nickel-plated for this purpose? Furthermore, does the reduction in tensile strength of the spokes become effective rapidly? Maybe it would not matter for 3 months if Mr. Pass is then prepared to go to the expense of scrapping the wheels, if, and when, they become faulty and replacing them with others.

As regards the Jacks, the whole point in the International Alpine Trials is to save every moment of time that is possible with such troubles as changing wheels due to punctures. It is possible in view of your remarks that Mr. Pass will have D.W.S. Jacks fitted to the chassis and will carry a standard hand-operated jack in case of failure. In this event could the jacks be fitted at the Works before the chassis leaves, or must they be fitted in London during the completion of the Coachwork? Also, would it be possible to use the ordinary hand jack on our back axle with the D.W.S. jack fitted, or would they interfere with its accessibility or suitability?

Re revolution counter, I know he is very keen about this, and I think if you could provide him with a drive he would like to have it. I saw one fitted to Malcolm Campbell's car not long ago where the drive was taken off the magneto drive shaft through a spring belt.

We note you have selected chassis 28-MS for this order.
