R.R. 758 (10M) (SL 72 18-7-23) MP 274954s. STANDARDISATION of CHASSIS PARTS. COMPLETED 28.11.23 Description of Parts: 40 HP. and 20 HP. CHASSIS. MATERIAL FOR VALVES. Origin: To increase life. Experimental Test Report: Tests on aero engines have proved that silchrome steel is a considerable improvement over our present steel. Road Test Report: Springfield have tested these valves on 40/50 HP cars and find them an improvement. There is less wear with this material. Part List: A Scrap and replace at all costs, including Chassis already delivered to customers. B Scrap and replace on Chassis in works. C Scrap present stock and replace on all Chassis not yet handed to test. D Use existing stock Alteration effective on future Chassis. Cost of Parts in Works which will be scrapped if commenced on:- Series......... £......... Series......... £......... Series......... £......... Weight of Old Part. Cost of Old Part. £ Weight of New Part. Cost of New Part. £ Difference per Car. £ Difference per Car. £ No Difference Signature of Mr. De LOOZE that above is correct. SIGNATURES, DATE, REMARKS MR. JOHNSON, 27.11.23, Agreed. CJ. MR. B. JOHNSON, 27.11.23, Agreed. B.J. Presume no scrap. MR. ROYCE, 17.11.23, Agreed. MHR.{M. H. Rigby} Understand we have made test which shews decided improvement and that we are making further and continuous tests both on car and aero engines to prove that there is no other direction in which the steel may fail such as mechanical brittleness after repeated reheatings.
