Item (2). 1300 lbs. springs to give 12" deflection. We wish you to do the best you can with these springs. If you are afraid of the thickness of the main leaf you can carry the second leaf round the eye. We would ask you to do the best you can and let us have the springs as soon as possible.

Item (3). The same remarks apply to Item (3) as to Item (2).

In dealing with these rear springs we should like to point out that we do not share your apprehension with regard to increasing the stress on the rear springs. A broken rear spring with us has always been a rarity. During the past few years we know that wehave increased the resistance of the spring to failure by polishing and Cadmium Plating.

Incidentally, there are numerous cases in which the standard rear springs you supply have been run at a normal loaded deflection of 10" instead of 8" with no ill-effect.

We should be obliged if you would make every endeavour to deliver these springs as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully,

For Rolls-Royce Ltd.
