(8) Road Springs
We propose shortly to try some means of feeding the spring gaiters from the Bijur system. At present spring gaiters are not an unmixed blessing because if neglected they harbor water instead of oil. We have in mind that a simple pad and Bijur plug instead of a gaiter may be preferable.

(9) General Results.
The general results from the use of the Bijur system are excellent. We showed Hby. several parts off cars fitted with the system.

For example:-

Radiator supporting balls which generally wear rapidly stay perfect for 25,000 miles.

Rear Spring pivots and front brackets show little or no wear.

Water pump bearings (New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I) show no measurable wear in 15,000 miles. Also the gland packings stay tight.

(10) Front Shock Absorber.
On the present friction shock absorber we feed the top ball through a flexible metallic tube, a very messy scheme but available without altering the shock absorber.

On the new hydraulics we are proposing to use two leather gland packings pinched up positively without a spring, and feed the oil between the packings, as on the water pump. The oil passes through the rocking shaft and down a pipe on the outside of the operating lever to the top-ball. The connecting rod is arranged so that drainage from the top ball falls to the lower ball.

A-10290 shows the scheme.

Yours very truly,
Maurice Olley
