appear to be almost equal to the journal loads, it appears, in my opinion, entirely wrong to consider a single row bearing, and this not only in connection with the actual loading on the bearing, but also in the fact that with a single row bearing under the loading conditions present, while the initial side play in the bearing can be restricted, under loading conditions quite an appreciable axial movement must take place, and there is no doubt that this axial movement is detrimental to your job, irrespective of the bearing itself. However, it seems that the question now arises with regard to the economics of the position, and I have no doubt that you have put up all the necessary features with regard to service etc.

Incidentally, dealing with the question of bearing costs in general, I am aware of the fact that our bearings are invariably more expensive than our competitors, but, in this respect, I am sure you will agree that the quality of the products warrants this, this of course being the main reason for the variation in cost, and taking the long view I feel confident that all your people will agree that the higher cost of the bearings on your bevel pinions has actually resulted in an economy, apart from avoiding all the troubles which you originally had.

However, I await your further comments on this matter, and with regard to your letter of the 19th instant referring to tab washers, this I dealt with during our telephone conversation of yesterday.

Kindest regards,
Yours sincerely,
