Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} x728 BY.8/G.20.3.33. RE CLUTCH WITH A SPRING DRIVE AND FRICTION DAMPER ON THE PLATE. In order to ascertain our position in regard to patents if we adopted anything like the Chrysler form of clutch or some of the variations which we are working on at the moment, I took up the matter with Mr. Constantine, who is Consulting Engineer for General Motors in this country. He on his part passed my letter on to Mr. Eveleth of their Patent Section, and as a result of his investigation of the position it would appear, as I pointed out in my letter to them of the 10th inst., that the introduction of a drive through coiled springs with damping by friction plates as used by us in 1911, and by Napiers in 1916, would preclude any patents being in existence which would cover these two general features.
