(dictated 5th) Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. For the attention of Mr. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hives. Dear Sirs, Mr. Lappin informs me that you might be interested in a self-adjusting valve rocker operated by oil pressure, for possible use on your car engines. As a matter of fact, the scheme I have been developing was intended originally for aero engine use, and has already been incorporated in a 24-cylinder aircraft engine. The results obtained to date have been very promising, although, of course, we have not to worry about obtaining the maximum degree of silence when idling.
