ANTI-RESONANT SILENCER PATENTS.
-----------------------------

We have been in correspondence with Mr. W.W. Constantine on the above subject for some little time, and as a result of our consideration of the patents, which he submitted to us there is little doubt but that if they get their British patents granted that we should have to pay them a royalty, as we shall follow so closely their general scheme, as to constitute a definite infringement of their claims. In view of this, we asked for a tentative figure, which would be firm if we required to adopt them for the 20/25 and 40/50 HP. chassis respectively, and they have given us as a general principle the following proposal :-

" Coming back to the exhaust silencer, our people state that the royalties will be one cent per £20 of the selling price. This would work out at 52 cents royalty for your 20/25 model at a chassis selling price of £1050 and 87 cents royalty for the 40/50 model on a chassis selling price of £1750.

Personally, I am of the opinion that they have treated us quite generously in this matter, bearing in mind the fact that the scheme was explained fully to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} at the time of his visit to General Motors, and our present scheme undoubtedly exploits the information submitted. This is definitely confirmed by the patent specification which they have submitted to me by request for consideration.
