ORIGINAL TO HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ. c. to BJ. c. to PN.{Mr Northey} RE.GOSHAWK MAGNETO. X355/ I suggest that we push on with the standardisation of the magneto (without distributor) and the rest of the scheme, using the battery distributor for the magneto current. There will be one or two little units to improve before we run the standardisation off. The coupling as carried out at Derby is inconvenient and dangerous. The WW. one recently sent should be better. The wire running from the magneto to the distributor might be placed along the inside of the frame instead of being grouped with the ignition wires, which seems confusing. The socket for the alternate plugs possibly also should be made easier to manipulate, and more reliable. We have not at present a good means of stopping the battery current when the magneto is put into action, but as the magneto should only be used when the battery fails, perhaps this is not very important. We hope also to find another means of holding on the cover of the distributing box. I do not think any of those we suggested while you were at WW. are quite as simple as one would wish. We are hoping to find something better. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
