| V217. To R.{Sir Henry Royce} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/MJ.22.6.32. 'BENSPORT' ENGINE. We consider in deciding on the 'Bensport' engine we should look forward to the fact that engine speeds are likely to increase. We know that cars such as 'Riley' (with push rods), 'Morris', 'Alfa', are running with supercharged engines well over 6,000 R.P.M. From a preliminary test on Peregrine engine one could foretell that the limiting speed for this engine will be the crankshaft. However much we dislike the idea it is certain that the 'Bensport' car will be used for racing and therefore we consider we ought to be satisfied with the crankshaft before we are committed to it.
