Lieut. Kendall. 21.1.16. Mcr/D9/L21116.

With reference to your memo AHK23/F6116 which has been passed to us by Mr Platford, we would point out that 40 piston castings were received and not 12 as stated in your memo, 20 being to drawing E.8029 which is the old standard type, and 20 to E.8030 which is the new Zephyr type.

All the 20 pistons to E.8029 have already been machined in the shop but have all been scrapped owing to faulty castings, the crowns being far too thin in addition to them leaking badly.

Of the 20 Zephyr type pistons to E.8030, 8 of these have been machined in the shop but have failed to pass our Inspection Dept. owing to faulty castings, namely thin crowns and leaking. 8 are now being machined in the shop and will be ready in the course of next week, and we still have 4 in stock.

~ not Zephyrs at all
