X18870 To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From G.W.H. Hotel de France. Chateauroux. Indre. 5.6.33. 18. G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} IV. HYDRAULIC DAMPERS. During yesterday's mileage the front dampers showed weeping from the glands. But the amount lost is negli-geable. The N.S. was the new damper brought over by W. Bell. The rear dampers had both been fitted up with our own scheme. We have since examined the gland packing of the N.S. and we are not at all satisfied with the asbestos rope. Our own rope we consider makes a better packed gland. We are therefore repacking the gland. COOLING EFFICIENCY. There appears to be a condition when the air ceases to have any effect upon the cooling surfaces of the radiator. This may be due to the appertures of the matrix being too small, or the air under the bonnet not getting away quick enough. The following happened during yesterday's mileage. The fan belt broke. The temperatures before its braking. were: Every 25 Miles. AIR OIL WATER 31 81 82 30 84 82 29 83 84 28 83 84 With no fan working. Every 25 Miles. AIR OIL WATER 28 86 87 27 84 84 26 82 83 25 84 83 The Bonnet shutters were open in both cases GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} | ||
