Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}7/MH.{M. Huckerby} 23rd. February 1938. The Gandy Belt Mfg. Col. Ltd., Wheatland Works, Seacombe, CHES. For the attention of Mr.Ikin. Dear Sirs, We apologise for the delay in answering your letter of 19th. inst. signed by Mr.Wyatt, but this has been occasioned by uncertainty as to whether the writer would be in England on Friday, 25th. It appears wisest to postpone Mr.Ikin's visit until after the writers return from France, when he will communicate with you. We have tested the combination of "400 M" and "D" materials as requested, and we regret to say that although the linings are reasonably good as regards squeaks, they exhibit exactly the same undesirable characteristics as the 400.GM. When fitted to a car the front brakes immediately began to swell, and as we were expecting this to occur we immediately adjusted the brakes and kept on doing so until the initial swelling was over. In spite of these precautions, when the brakes had settled down the car began to dive to one side on brake application, gently at first but finally violently so that it became unsafe to handle. | ||
