22nd. September 1938.

Yesterday, Sept. 21st. we had a 'phone call from Mr. Richards of H.D.A. stating that they had some A.C.9 material, the copper content of which was low, namely .35% to .45%.

Our suggestion was as follows: that for every 100 lbs. of Alloy melted 0.75 lbs. of Cu/Al. (50/50) should be added during the remelt, and prior to casting.

We give you that information, as a matter of interest only, because we learned later that the faulty material referred to was in the form of finished bearings. Our final verdict was that it should be scrapped therefore.

We hope all this clears up any misunderstanding, and would assure you that we are anxious to give you all the assistance we can, and are therefore at your service.

Yours faithfully,

for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
