-3- Contd. carburetter. One cannot say that the demonstrations they have made on different cars fitted with this carburetter are exceptional unless one knows the exact conditions of the tests, for instance, 40/50 R.R. going from London to Edinborough and back on 24 1/2 miles to a gallon is an infinitely better performance than 23 M.P.G. on a "Ford". There is no reason at all why this carburetter should give any wonderful results. From tests we have carried out, we know that the submerged jet, unless you use a diffuser, is the very worst type of jet for breaking up the petrol. It is undoubtedly improved in this carburetter by having the high velocity air which passes up the annular space impinging on the petrol as it leaves the jet. I think the real reason they get fairly good results from this carburetter is that the whole of the air which passes in the carburetter is really hot. I felt the carburetter when the car had stopped and the whole of it was what one would term fairly hot. This of course means loss in HP. The people who are running the carburetter did not give one much confidence; the Works are in an old livery-stable. At present the works consist of - 2 lathes and a Drilling machine. They say, of course, they are waiting for their plant. They do not appear to have any means of carrying out tests although they spoke of having run a R.R. car engine fitted with one of these carburetters with a fan brake. Contd. | ||
