ORIGINAL To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/T4.12.23. RE 20 H.P. REAR AXLE. X4256 Reference Rl/M1.12.23. All the axle pinions so far that we have tested have been to the original dimensions as regards length of teeth and radii. The comparisons made have been with C.H.N.S. and air hardened steel, and thickness of tooth with coarse gear. The results so far show the air hardened steel to be better than C.H.N.S. for wear.
