HELICAL 2nd SPEEDS.

We have now tested the W.W. designs of silent 2nd. gear on Peregrine, 20/25, and 40/50. On all three chassis there has been no tendency for the engaging dogs to work out of mesh on drive, overrun, or light running.

The Peregrine box has completed 10,000 miles successfully. The Phantom and 20/25 boxes will shortly be running in France on 27-AX and 18.G.IV. respectively.

The sliding piece in the 40/50 box is that shown in the lower half of N.Sch.3631.
