A very important point is the frequent lubrication of the springs in order that the felt pads are kept well saturated with thin oil, and this should be carried out at frequent intervals. As you know, the gaiters are not oil retaining and unless the lubricant can get to the spring leaves every 100 miles the increased friction will completely change the riding characteristics at slow speeds, and our inspectors or anyone who visits customers with springing complaints where the felt pads have been fitted to the spring gaiters, should do everything possible to get the Chauffeurs to oil the springs at least once a week, and only very thin oil should be used.

I consider that of the work we are carrying out in the case of springing complaints, this is one of the most important points.

I am hopeful that later on when we get some results from our present experiments we shall go a long way to solve this very difficult question, at least in cases where customers' complaints are genuine.
