20 HP. SIDE STEERING TUBE SPRINGS. X5450

In the recent tests of the 20 HP. improved steering geometry, we have broken a numberof the present standard springs F.54759. In previous tests we have not broken these springs. They are however rather highly stressed. We submitted one of these springs to the Laboratory for examination and from the report H12/EA311227 there appears to be undesirable features in the material. We think it would be advisable to take the matter up with the manufacturers. The position is not very serious because most of the springs lasted 20 hrs. which is about the life of a front spring on the bump.

When the improved steering geometry is standardised, we shall use springs F.54789 which have a higher rating and a lower maximum stress. So far we have not broken these in our tests. Will you please note that these springs will be standard with the improved 20 HP. steering geometry.
