Examination report on the performance of rear springs, petrol tank, instrument board, and windscreen wiper.

REAR ROAD SPRINGS to LOP F.57235.

We have made an examination of the rear springs with the gaiters removed. The lubrication appears to be O.K. No squeaks have been heard. The spring clips have remained consistently tight. The rear springing is too light for the continental roads. The rear passenger is constantly thrown up when travelling at high speeds. The riding is unsteady at low speeds. It would appear to require more damping.

PETROL TANK to LOP F.57368.

Incorporating:-
(1) E.S.3028 Revised K.S. Telegauge Fittings to Arrgt;
(2) Double Filter to give 2 galls. reserve.
(3) Revised Petrol Filler - Phantom II design.
including hinged Filler Cap. Nickel Plated Finish.

The petrol tank has been free from any leaks. The anchorage has remained O.K.
The filler is a decided improvement and no fault has been found with it.

This, after its failing during the run from Derby, and the air leak cured at the fitting on the tank, operated and given correct readings of the petrol throughout the mileage.

INSTRUMENT BOARD to LOP D.51914.

Patch group instruments, using Plain Glass
having Reflectors stuck on.
Ferranti Ammeter.

We are trying out a scheme of using a plain glass in the patch group with the reflectors stuck on to reduce the recurrent failures of the drilled glass in the Customer's Cars so that if this test is a success, we can fit the above when Cars come into the Depot with a cracked glass. The above at this mileage is quite satisfactory.

LUCAS WINDSCREEN WIPER. X. 4478

This wiper failed early on in the test. We do not think from previous experience that this wiper is a good job. In this case the teeth on the driving spindle has all been sheared. They do not appear to be strong enough for the work entailed. The brass spindle is cut down to too fine a limit. The wiper at medium and high speeds does not clean the glass sufficient. The mechanism is too light and flimsy.
