Mr Royce 24.7.12. X339 Re the recently designed new type of Bevel Axle with short pinion shaft. TBB5/L24712. With reference to the latest design of experimental bevel axle with a short pinion shaft, Mr Platford emphasizes the fact that we have not as yet been able to obtain a really satisfactory axle (for quietness) with the original design of short pinion shaft, even with the 18 toothed pinion. Mr Wormald has supplied and fitted to this original axle several sets of very good gears but agrees that the axle has not been satisfactory from a quietness point of view. Mr Platford is of the opinion that before building this latest design of experimental axle we should satisfy ourselves whether we can or cannot obtain quiet gears with the old axle of this type, and if we cannot, then we should alter the new design to | ||
