re tackle for axle strain tests.

With reference to the 56 lbs weights which cost 6/8d each, I should say that suitably shaped pieces of cast iron at 7/- or 8/- per cwt. would serve the purpose.

Referring to other materials be careful to buy just what you want of good quality and I am agreeable.

Re hydraulic ram with gauge, I suppose that this is a jack to work vertically or horizontally. A hydraulic ram is a thing for pumping water.

The shop cast iron box packings were arranged scientifically to increase in height by small amounts. I have forgotten the dimensions, not simple squares of all one size. These can be stacked together making many dimensions.

See if models are O.K. and copy them. They are somewhat as follows:-

[Diagram 2: 9" x 6"]
[Diagram 3: 4 1/2" x 3 1/4"]

Thick enough not to "come to grief by one thicker than small ones.
