MDS/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} S/W. Copy to H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 1044 MK.7/ML.17.6.38. An owner who was having a trial run in Croall's trials 25/30 told me that he had already had a run in a Lincoln Zephyr the same afternoon and been very much impressed with it. He asserted that its acceleration figures beat those for the P.III and later I had a letter from him giving the figures below, which he said he had got from the "Autocar" and "Country Life" respectively. I thanked him for them but did not make any comment beyond saying that it looked as though a car of the Zephyr's weight and power ought really to be compared with the 4¼ Bentley rather than the bigger P.III. The figures are below in case you would like to make any comment:- P.III. Price about £2,500. Weight 50 cwt. Max. speed 92 m.p.h. Rest to 50 m.p.h. 14.1 sec. " " 60 " 18.5 " On top 10-30 m.p.h. in 7.1 sec. " " 30-50 " " " 7.9 " Tax £38. 5s. 0d. Petrol consumption ? Lincoln Zephyr Price, saloon, £550. Weight 35 cwt. Max. speed 90 m.p.h. Rest to 50 m.p.h. 9.4 sec. " " 60 " 15.0 " On top 10-30 m.p.h. in 6.6 sec. " " 30-50 " " " 7.3 " Tax £27. 15s. 0d. Petrol consumption 16 m.p.g. MK.{R. E. B. Meade-King} 16.6.38.
