Messrs.Rolls-Royce,Ltd., Date 5.12.28. Page 2 vertical, and rectify this ¾ gallon loss. We note the result of the Swan spirit test, and are pleased to see that no loss was experienced. It would be interesting to repeat this test, and put the car to stand in a cold exposed position for say six hours, after it had been standing well warmed up against a radiator, and note the variations in the gauge reading. We believe that this temperature difference between the two sets of conditions, may give us the required information. ROAD TESTS. We note the distance travelled before rapid pumping was obtained. Could you inform us whether the tank was filled to the 14 gallon mark, or to the top of the filler, when starting out under these conditions? On the new unit which we are making to correct the datum, we are going to replace the top cup higher and in a more exposed position than on the previous unit. From the indications which we obtained with the cup thus placed on N.sch.2576/2578 (K.S.175), it would appear that rapid pumping commenced at approximately 12¼ gallon level; in other words at 1¾ gallons below the 14 gallon mark, or about 2 gallons below the top of the filler. | ||
