Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Monday. March 1st. 1937. Please get the attached copied and sent to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} The "Floating Kidney" pendulum balance weight seems a very smart scheme and might nicely get rid of our 6 per rev torsional on the 12 cyl. It is, of course, a pendulum of very large mass and very short length (1/2"?). They tune it to the firing impulses at the objectionable period. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} says he has put through a scheme, we should follow up and get running. Recommend we try some of Wakefield's latest "Hypoid" ultra E.P. lubricant in the next axle we send to France on a Bentley, it may eliminate occasional failure at present experienced. See if you can produce failure on the over run by letting the clutch in on a dead engine at 60 M.P.H. 3rd speed. We go to Gleasons to-morrow. | ||
