84554. To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} (Struck through) c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ----------------- re:20/25 HP. CHASSIS MATERIAL ----------------- Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}2/GR.{George Ratcliffe}15.7.32 - In accordance with the present instructions outlined in the above, the ordering of the Exhaust material for such Chassis is held up for the whole of "W" Series. Under existing arrangements the first Chassis in "W" Series is due to Road Test the week ending .............. September 10th If, therefore, continuity of operations is to be maintained, it is necessary we should receive instructions as soon as possible to order a further batch of Exhaust System parts - presumably of the present design, as the Resonant Silencer has not yet been standardised - and we suggest 50 sets. At the same time we would emphasize the fact that unless the Experimental Shop can standardise the Resonant Silencer within approximately 6 weeks from date, it will be necessary to order additional Exhaust material beyond the 50 sets now proposed. Whether it is possible for the Experimental Shop to speed up their tests with the Resonant Silencer we do not know, but venture to mention this again as substitution thereof will effect a saving of several pounds per Chassis.
