Phantom III Front Suspension Springs.

With reference to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LES.7/JH.27.2.36, the results obtained with front suspension springs made by The E.S.C.whereby these springs are still operating after more than 100 hours on the bumper, compared with the average of 25 hours for Firth's and 37 hours for Salters up to breakage, is outstanding, and I suggest that we immediately order further quantities of E.S.C. springs for test to confirm this result, and at the same time seriously consider whether we should not go over for at least part of our supplies on production to this make.

It is important also to know in what way these springs differ in material or treatment.

With regard to the front suspension levers to N.Sch.4716, reported on in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.20/KW.24.2.36, this is the 2-key type which we designed to provide the maximum section at the point where failure had previously been experienced on the multi-key pattern.

These 2-key levers have already been instructed on production once, and then deleted because they were reported loose on the splines, from which it was deduced that the key faces were overloaded. In view, however, of the good results obtained on the bump test, whereby it is seen that the 2-key type are still in good condition after 100 hours, we requested that a special check should be made on the clearance, with the result given in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.20/KW.24.2.36, and we would now agree to returning to N.Sch.4716 for production.
