Whilst we agree that this is a means of improving the present position, we have not found it necessary to drill the spindle of the water pump providing this was made in Nitralloy and all our 10,000 miles tests of Phantom ll (now four in number) have been made with undrilled water pump spindles. Possibly, we have used more clearance between the spindle and the Phosphor Bronze guide bush, but if cases of seizing up have occurred at this point we presume the clearance must be insufficient. Since the proposed modification is a scheme which has not been run on Experimental Phantom ll cars, we are making a few tests on it. Since the centralised lubrication does most of the chassis, if we can make the water pump largely independent of hand lubrication so much the better because it will never get much attention.
