Fitting new lower rated front springs to chassis 82-AL to resolve springing complaints.

The new type lower rated front springs were fitted to this car at N. last Thursday, together with stronger rear springs to overcome a complaint of dithers, pitching and bumping on the buffers, which insisted in spite of our latest treatment to the springs. This is a car with a light fabric body, on which cars we have not been successful in curing springing complaints. I consider the latest springing is a remarkable success, and I would judge it to be one of the best sprung R-R cars I have ever tried. The only drawback is the increased tendency to steering joggles at speeds over 60 m.p.h. but it did not get into a wobble. As agreed by You, we are now preparing similar springs for Mrs. Body, and I suggest that we treat this car in just the same way as Clifford Turner's and if it is as successful, we order a few sets of the lower rated front springs to use in similar cases where necessary. The car was taken away on Friday afternoon, to take Mr. Clifford Turner to Brighton. The Chauffeur has promised to report later. lpm. | ||
