Phantom III Back Axle.

We send herewith N.Sch.4890 showing stone guards to be provided on the back axle to protect the lower ends of the shock damper and roll rod connecting rods and also the aluminium brackets for the jacks, as indicated by experience on the last 10,000 mile test.

The hand brake ropes between the equaliser and the shoes were somewhat damaged by stones during the same test.

We have not done anything to protect them as we have not been able to find a scheme that we like, also our impression is that the test must have been somewhat excessively severe as the damage to various parts was much more than we have previously observed on 10,000 mile test cars.

Sheet metal guards in front of the ropes held by brackets from the axle tube could be arranged but we hesitate to adopt such a cumbersome scheme until there is more evidence that something is necessary.

N.Sch.4890 herewith.
