Phantom III Gearboxes.

We wish to change slightly the instructions we have sent you about these gearboxes, owing to the fact that Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} is not in a position to test any pieces for us.

Box No. 7HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}
Will you please fit to this box the first concertina piece which has been dynamometered, and then refit the box to 36-EX.

Box No. 4HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}
We should like in this the same second speed pieces that have been dynamometered, in order to find how much more testing is required to break them. We should like a new concertina piece and a new third motion shaft. We believe these will be ready by to-morrow.

Box No. 10HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}
This box is required for 32-EX, and should have Cadillac gears throughout with the taper fixing arrangement used on No. 9HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, but the second speed should be the N.Sch.4824 parts and the third speed N.Sch.4893. All the splines in the box to be hard.

If we can have any parts not directly cancelled in this memo. and instructed in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}17/KW.1.7.36, such as steel thrust washers, etc., we should like to have them.

Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}
