The Tempered Spring Co. Ltd., Burton Weir Works, SHEFFIELD, 4. Dear Sirs, We are enclosing a print of a suspension spring RG.{Mr Rowledge}2052. This spring has an appreciably lower maximum stress than ones we have previously used, made from silico-manganese steel and we imagine that this justifies the elimination of the ground and polished finish we have previously asked for on our more highly stressed springs. From your experience, would you say that a spring from either black or bright drawn bar, shot-blasted, would stand up? Also, again in view of the lower stress, is there any cheaper finish than cadmium plating that you could recommend for the weather proofing of the spring? Our interest is naturally to obtain the cheapest possible article which will stand up to the job it has to do, and we should welcome your remarks on the two subjects mentioned above and on any other which you think may help to achieve this object.
