To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re Water Temperature Control. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}2/E3.5.29

I have read with great interest Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG1.5.29 and Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/TsnL/LG1.5.29, and I am very pleased to note you say that you prefer the Thermostat operated shutters.

I understand you are going down to see R.{Sir Henry Royce} next week, and I hope you will take the opportunity of pressing this matter because this question of our hand operated shutters is one which is always being brought up to me by our agents as a definite disadvantage, and xxxxxxxxx speaking from my own experience I certainly do think that the hand operated arrangement is a nuisance.

In the case of the "SS{S. Smith}", from what you said last Sunday, I understand that, as we have a water heated carburetter, the question of the correct temperature is more important than on the Phantom and the 20, and that one cannot hope to get the best results unless the water is kept at some pre-determined temperature, and as we know that in practice this is not at all easy and probably very rarely done, it does seem important to press on with this question of thermostat control for the shutters.

If you think it would help if I wrote giving our views to R.{Sir Henry Royce}, please let me know, but in any case I thought it would be helpful to let you know our views.

Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}
