RE: FRONT WILMOT BREEDON BUMPERS.

In regard to your further memo on the above subject, reference Sr/VA.5/ET.5.6.36., the angle piece as arranged is in our opinion quite inadequate for the loadings which will be imposed upon it had the lead weights been fitted. With, of course, the wooden circular blocks fitted the load will be small, but there is still, we believe, sufficient relative movement between the two pieces to result in fracture of the stud securing the angle, to the bumper bar boss.

We note that there was no evidence that the lead weight had collapsed on the vertical axis. This rather strengthens the view we expressed at the end of our memo that the cause of the fracture is relative movement between the spring plate carrying the lead weight and the curved bumper bar, which would result in throwing high side loads on the bolt securing the lead weights.
