| 319. C. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} PHANTOM III - FOUR INLET PORT CYLINDER HEAD E.CD.107. Included in the modifications to the above cylinder head was an additional water communication hole from cylinder to cylinder head at a point just below the thermometer, this was added so that a reduced temperature reading might be shown on the thermometer. As the thermometer pocket on the modified head is not so confined as before a more correct temperature reading should be obtained even without the aforementioned extra water hole, and as this would call for an alteration to the crankcase and also to the cylinder head gasket we suggest that this feature should be omitted from the production alteration and only instructed as a separate experiment to the Experimental Department, so that its value can be obtained before adding it to the production engines. When the extra hole is added, it should be duplicated in the gasket, so that the gasket would still be fool-proof when assembling, and also common to both 'A' and 'B' units as now.
