We send herewith E.CD.107 Modified Four Inlet Port Cylinder Head. The object of this alteration is solely to improve the water passages in cylinder head to give improved conditions for sand cores, and also to reduce the range of water temperature variation due to steam pockets. To obtain the increased space over the exhaust ports we have raised the valve springs on the valve, although the overall length of the valve is not increased, and also used the Bentley valve spring top washer. The cylinder stud bosses have been made longer to suit the altered conditions, and have also received additional length to enable a larger facing cutter to be used and so avoid the necessity for hand work at the top of the bosses to clear away the surplus annular projections left when using a small face cutter on the oversize bosses, longer studs are required to suit. Will you please instruct the alterations as soon as possible, and thereby release the parts at present held up. The cylinder head end covers may be released at once, as we have not altered these as was originally intended. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
