re BENTLEYS - FRONT WING DITHERING
**********************

With reference to your report on the first two production cars, i.e. B-65-AE and B-39-AE, in which you pointed out that the only complaint you and Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} had to make was the rather bad dithering of the front wings over rough roads. We replied in our EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}3/MH.{M. Huckerby}26.1.34 that you should make a test by increasing the fixing of the T.R.dampers.

A record of the engine roughness and its effect on the dithering above mentioned should be noted before and after adjustment, the best compromise obtained and report accordingly. Each car should be adjusted on its merits.

We are anxious to obtain a figure for the setting of these T.R.dampers which gives the best all-round compromise, so that we can arrange to turn out each chassis accordingly.

This point has now been confirmed in a report we have received from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ref. Ha/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}11/KW.27.1.34, copy of which I attach for you and Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington}

As previously pointed out to you, these cars differ from the first 15 inasmuch as the radiator is now centrally mounted.

I have approached Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} on this matter at the Works today. He explains that he is not at all satisfied that the front wings have been properly fixed, as they do not seem as sound and rigid as the 20/25 F.P. How do they compare with any of the first 15 Bentley cars?
