X787D BY AIR MAIL. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Derby. Copy to Fr. London. Copy to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Derby. Bombay, WRC.4/S.6.8.34. re Chassis No.1-WJ - Mr. I.H. Taunton. Many thanks for your BY.2/G.27.7.34. You will notice from the tone of my original memo that I rather anticipated that you will not be in a position to recommend air wheel tyres for large and fast cars, and I have fully appraised Mr. Taunton with the information contained in your memo. I need hardly say that I have realised all along that all sorts of difficulties might occur and consequently I definitely warned Mr. Taunton against doing anything in the matter until I was able to report to him after enquiry that such tyres have been approved by the Experimental Department. By a coincidence, I met Mr. Taunton at the pictures last Saturday night, and took the opportunity of telling him that Derby had not carried out any experiments in this direction and that I most certainly would not advise him to commence any experimental work himself of this nature. He was very glad to have this information and has definitely undertaken to carry on with the normal Balloon tyres which are standard. Again thanking you. WRC. WAR | ||
