I think these should have prompt attention as they are urgently wanted on the cars to improve the suspension. They are certainly the most important feature of the car at the moment, at any rate on such rough roads as one finds in France. How will they do this?

Firstly, I hope they will permit the safe use of semi-balloon tyres at about 30/35 lbs. per sq. in., (possibly also lighter and modified axle would be needed in extreme cases.)

Secondly, owing to constant action, gentle in one direction and vigorous in rebound, they should steady the car without making it harsh (avoiding some cases of sickness.)

The combinations that are novel, which we have produced, should be patented. They are:-

(1) Forced filling of the suction side of the cylinders by the fluid passing the spring loaded blow off valves of the pressure side.

(2) Arranged for double action, controlled by spring loaded relief valves which are set for any desired equal or preferably unequal effect.

(3) The use of replenishing inlet valves to each end of the cylinder, with one restricted outlet (preferably on the low pressure side) at the highest point of the pressure passages, to discharge any air that may be in the system. This outlet may be fitted with non-return valve.

I have telegraphed Derby as follows:-

"of passage fit this with non-return ball valve."
