3. The price of supplies under the new specification will depend on the anti-knock value this specification demands and in our particular case the bearing of the extra cost of the benzole addition in the interim will be a matter for discussion between ourselves and the Contracts Department of the Ministry. We trust that the foregoing fully answers the last paragraph of your letter of November 30th - and we would say that we hesitated to explain this in our letter of November 25th, feeling that the explanation should properly have been made by the Air Ministry. (b) The third paragraph of your letter of November 30th implies that complaints have recently arisen as to the quality of fuel we have supplied to you. We cannot understand this, as it is the first reference you have made to the matter. If you will oblige us with specific details as to such complaints and provide us with samples of the fuel complained of, we will take immediate steps to investigate, and to remedy matters if, although we consider it most unlikely, there is anything wrong. ----------------- In conclusion we want to emphasize the fact that, whilst we are only too ready to supply a fuel fully complying with the Air Ministry's requirements, we are extremely surprised at your suggestions that our deliveries have been inconsistent in quality after the immense amount of trouble we have taken to prove to the Ministry (and they have admitted this) that, in all respects, our supplies have conformed to the conditions laid down in 1929, conditions which have not been officially altered since that date. We would repeat that if you really feel that you have cause for complaint we should be only too glad to go fully into the matter and do all in our power to ensure that you receive what you consider a suitable fuel. To do this we must, of course, have specific details and opportunities to investigate without delay. Yours faithfully, For SHELL-MEX & B.P. LTD. | ||
