- 2 - Plugs.(continued). When taken out, N°1 & 6 were wet, but had not misfired; N°s 2,3,4,5 were dry. No noticeable burning of points had taken place. These have been cleaned and reset. Periods. alleviate [handwritten] The periods of the engine have not altered in any way. We can obviate the retard periods by opening the throttle with ignition shut off. Engine gears. We are of the opinion that the engine gear sing has increased and a rattle has developped. We dismantled the gear brake fitted to the dynamo drive and found that the fibre had become chared and brittle, fell to pieces upon touching it. We have temporarily relined it with some soft copper as we had no other material on hand. Engine case. New oil sump and cover fitted E.53793/4 to L.E.C. 2196; otherwise to L.O.P. E.51583. We have still a bad oil leak from rear of engine case. There is a stream of oil comes out of clutch case when car comes to rest. This is getting past the rear bearing. We have had no further oil leak from magneto brake cover since fitting the paper washer to joint. The engine case is in good condition. Water pump & drive. We have experienced no trouble with water pump and condition of same is good. The fabric drive has not deteriorated any more since our last report. The slight oil leak reported from water pump drive housing has been very small during the continuation of run The rubber joint from pump to radiator has deteriorated due to oil getting on it. Controls. A fair amount of slack had again developped in the carburetter mixture controls in the ball end sockets. There is also considerable slack in bearing of accelerator counter shaft at either end with consequent loss of movement when using the accelerator pedal. This is partly due to wear having taken place. A slight amount of slack had also taken place in controls of starter carburetter. The wear of the above has, in our opinion, taken place through fine sand getting into the unprotected ball end joints. Controls to ignition have remained O.K. Inlet pipe. This has remained quite O.K. | ||
