Piston Ring Knock. - Pre-War Chassis. Attached is a copy of letter from Mr. Stanley Johnson, owner of 23-PB. The following experiments are in hand :- (a). Aluminium pistons suitable for the existing pre-War 10.500" Con Rod. (b). Reduction of clearance of the lands above bottom ring. (c). C.I. piston (R.1428) like standard pre-War but with 4 post-War rings .085 deep. instead of 3 rings .187 deep. In view of the urgency of Mr. Stanley Johnson's case, we would be glad to know if you consider we would be in order in fitting this R.1428 piston straight-away without standardization sheet, as the only alteration is the employment of post-War instead of pre-War rings. (We have a set ready for fitting). We have just been informed that Capt. Burt's car 1619 has developed the same complaint for the third time, and we would like to offer him a set of these pistons also. [Initial] Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/NRC.{N. R.
