PIPING FOR HYDRAULIC JACKS - PH.III.

It has been reported that the pipe leading to the front hydraulic jack comes over the frame several inches behind the back of the radiator, and that coachbuilders have to allow clearance for their wings at this point which is somewhat difficult to get at. (See Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}/Cgh.{W Clough}1/W.6.5.37.).

We have investigated the trouble and find that the pipe as shown on LeC.4860 would clear the wings and bonnet valance even when it is changed from the offside to the nearside as instructed in E/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}2/MW.14.2.36.

We understand that a modification was made after the first chassis was erected, and was agreed to without appreciating the effect upon the coachwork. This is shown on F.89278.

It appears possible for the pipe to cross the frame a few inches further forward than at present, in which position it would give greater clearance for the wing and bonnet valance strip.

We should be glad if you would kindly arrange for this modification to be instructed.

The corresponding pipe on Wraith III. is shown on LeC.5353 (sheet 6), and it is sufficiently clear of the wing and valance strip to need no alteration.
