DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} C. BY/HEB.{H. Biraben} X5410 BY.6/G.16.10.31. X5410 X7410 ROAD SPRINGS. Referring to DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/M.15.10.31. and further to our BY.1/G.12.10.31. we should have emphasized the fact that in the special springs produced for us by Firths we use central rolled eyes all round. We can, of course, produce the offset rolled eye if this is more convenient for you at one end of the spring. Since writing the above note, we notice from Mr. Hancock's report of the completed 10,000 miles test that the special springs with rolled eyes produced for us by Firths have run 5,000 miles and that from an examination of the springs in question Mr. Hancock is satisfied with the appearance of them. No trouble has been experienced with the eyes or the lubrication of the plates. [Handwritten in margin: condition] The cost of a central rolled eye is only 10% of that of a solid forged eye. BY.{R.W.
